It's finally here! There is plenty left to do and see and explore in November, including multiple art & craft shows and ... my very own solo art show: Discovery! So many opportunities to buy handmade art for those you love. Scroll down for details and links!

"Shop for the holidays with more than 40 local arts and crafts vendors. A wide variety for every interest such as hand-made accessories, kids items, Christmas décor and more. Food will be available for purchase."
"Register for sessions individually at duluthartinstitute.org. Participants must be 18 or older. The cost is $10 for DAI members and $15 for non-members. Check-in at the door is required. Covid-19 Protocol: Students, event attendees, renting artists, teaching artists and staff are required to provide proof of vaccination before the start of their activity. Masks are required."

Duluth MakerSpace Membership Orientation Class, Duluth MakerSpace, 3001 W. Superior Street
"This class enables attendees to earn a fob which gives them RFID access to our tools and workspace from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM every day. It is intended for people interested in becoming a MakerSpace member. Attendees will be expected to have a current membership or pay for a monthly membership at the time of orientation. A general orientation to everything Duluth Makerspace. In this mandatory class for RFID access, we go over important tool usage, as well as workshop expectations and function. Please bring a personal mask, eye, ear protection and form of ID to this orientation.

"It will be cold so bundle up! Outside at 6:30 in the HART district is an opening ceremony with Jillian Forte, Sara Sha (bagpipes), and projections by the Embassy. Join in our costumed mock funeral march for rotten ideas with Honor the Earth, proceeding west with dead Max Skeleton to 7:30 fire spinning in the main Library Plaza with Spin Collective. Back indoors across the street, Max will rise and dance as three bands play in the LSRM at 8:00: Boys Back Home (brass), Sugar on the Roof (strings), and Sadkin (art-pop).

"Art play group is a sensory and art based experience created for children ages 2-6, however because our group is open-ended and exploratory in nature, children of all ages can enjoy materials in some way. Ojibwe 101, Superior Douglas County Family YMCA, 9 N. 21st Street
"The Superior YMCA is offering classes every Monday throughout the month of November to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. Cassie and Brittany Brown from Keewenaw Bay band of Ojibwe are the instructors. The classes meet to discuss and practice various aspects of Native American culture and are designed for people school-age and older.
"This session is designed to be an introduction to Ojibwe culture that promotes awareness and understanding of the Ojibwe people of the region and dispel some of the common misconceptions and stereotypes about Native peoples. The session includes: The Ojibwe migration story, information on the four sacred medicines, significance and history of traditional lacrosse, information about dreamcatchers, traditional uses for birch bark, the significance of eagle feathers and more."

Zentangle (R) Explore! on Zoom!, a Live Virtual Event
A pen is a powerful tool. It can help you record your grocery list, write a check or send a card to a loved one. It can also help you deeply relax, become more mindful, and increase your mental focus. A pen is a simple and powerful tool. Bring your pen to ZT Explore and spend an hour breathing and drawing lines. Simple lines. You will be amazed at how easy it is to slow down, tune in, and explore with your pen. Can't come live? Participants in this session will learn to make an Ojibwe-style dreamcatcher and the teachings and story behind it.

Participants in this session will learn the history and traditions of Ojibwe lacrosse while also participating and learning gameplay.
"Nov. 28: Learn to Bead (6 to 8 p.m.)
Participants in this session will learn about Ojibwe beadwork traditions while also learning how to make a daisy chain."
If you are familiar with the Zentangle method of pattern drawing, you will love this class! Each week we will draw a new tile composition to create a pleasing piece of art on a 3.5" square tile with pen & ink with pencil shading. To register, email me at episzczek@gmail.com. "Swing by the Duluth Folk School to carve spoons with others in a warm, informal setting. There will not necessarily be experienced carvers on hand to help you, so if you need to do some problem solving, have questions answered, or see techniques demonstrated, you’ll need to do that outside of these sessions."

1-3 p.m.: Tony Dierckins, author, along with the late Mary C. Norton, of Duluth’s Grand Old Architecture 1870-1940. Discover Duluth’s celebrated architecture in more than 420 historic photos and sketches.
3-5 p.m.: Emily Kilgore’s new children’s book The Christmas Book Flood is a lyrical picture book based on a real Icelandic tradition (one that should be familiar to all holiday followers of Zenith Bookstore)."

"Discovery is Esther Piszczek's first solo show in six years. During that time, she has explored her inner world, the outer expression of which is reflected in the 15 original works and 134 origami stars that decorate the space. "If you don't feel comfortable working free-hand, cookie cutter felting is for you. Use the cookie cutter to form your base shape and then embellish. The technique is quick and you are limited only by your imagination. Cookie cutters and embellishments provided.
