"Duluth teenagers are invited to a free after school art program. Bring your works in-progress or create something totally new. College art students are present to help you at every open studio. All supplies are provided and no previous art experience is required—everyone is welcome. Every Teen Open Studio includes food since it is hard to make art on an empty stomach. There will be a guest artist featured in June!

Duluth Story Project Community Conversation: The Right to be ..., Teatro Zuccone, Zeitgeist Arts, 222 E. Superior Street
"Kami Norland and Nelle Rhicard lead this conversation about how to grow and heal neighborhoods and communities. The Duluth Story Project is a podcast, community mosaic art exhibit and community conversation. This project was created to promote healing, to influence policy makers, to support local artists, and 'create a new next, together.'

"The podcast episodes feature stories from the community retold by artists. The interactive community mosaic art installation on display in the atrium art gallery at the Zeitgeist Arts building will remain through August. The Zeitgeist Healthy Hillside team has also collected stories from people about how the pandemic was affecting them and is bringing resources and information to help navigate those challenges. This exhibit will feature individual expressions from community members sharing their visions of what a connected, healthy community looks like."

"St. Louis County Historical Society Museum Assistant Abby Johnson reads stories in the Lake Superior Ojibwe Gallery every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer. Sessions are free and aimed at 2–12-year-olds, however, all ages are welcome. All books have been approved by the American Indian Advisory Committee. The gallery, located on the fourth floor of the Duluth Depot, contains original artworks by noted painter Eastman Johnson and artifacts that represent the history and culture of the area’s Ojibwe people."

"The nonprofit Oldenburg Arts and Cultural Community presents the Honey Bee Festival a two-day event featuring live music, honey-infused food and drink, and venders selling bee-inspired wares. Duluth Story Project Art Exhibit, Zeitgeist Arts Atrium, 222 E. Superior Street
"This collaborative community art exhibit features the work of those who participated in the Duluth Story Project. The Healthy Hillside team at Zeitgeist gathered stories from people in the community about their experiences during the pandemic. They were asked to draw their lived experiences as well as their vision for the future. To hear some of the stories behind this project, check out the podcast: Duluth Story Project: A Community Storytelling Experience.

Christopher E. Harrison: Contemporary Visions, Duluth Art Institute, John Steffl Gallery, 506 W. Michigan Street
"In 1941, painter Jacob Lawrence created Migration Series­­­—60 panels that chronicle the exodus of southern African Americans to the North. Each panel describes a story, some of opportunity and survival, some of abuse and death. In Contemporary Visions, Harrison adapts Lawrence’s panels into collages with modern narratives, pulling his own distinctive style from the small-scale figurative works. Bright colors and simple shapes create visual interest that draws the viewer in to discover stories as they unfold."

Wynn Davis: Salvaged Memories, Corridor

"Scraps of paper, bits of string, and sticker remnants are among the materials Wynn Davis gathers during his daily runs. Each token is a fragment of a memory that evolves into bright, poignant collages. In Salvaged Memories, Davis chronicles his 5,400 annual miles by assembling layers of paint, graphite drawings, and salvaged materials on paper."

Shaun Chosa, Indigenous, AICHO’s Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center, 212 W. 2nd Street
"Shaun Chosa, a Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa tribal citizen and painter/graphic design artist, will show 30+ large scale paintings that mostly feature new works depicting Indigenous portraits, some with his added 'Classic Shaun Chosa Style' pop culture artistic influence. Chosa had his first art gallery showing in Ely in 2000, and sold half of his paintings within the first hour of the artist reception! He has shown his eye-catching, curious, beautiful and captivating work since then at the Duluth Art Institute and several other galleries across the state." Gallery Viewing Hours: Fridays from 4-6 p.m.

July 22-September 18
Fika: Original Watercolors by Jan Padover, The Nordic Center, 23 N. Lake Avenue
Fika (fee-ka) is the act of gathering socially for a cup of coffee, or tea In Sweden, this twice-daily ritual also involves baked goods, or fikabrod. One can fika at a cafĂ© or at home, where these freshly baked pastries are always served with immense joy.  Previously featured on the outside historic fence of American Swedish Institute, Jan Padover’s original watercolor paintings feature 15 popular Swedish baked goods often enjoyed during fika. These paintings are part of a larger fika–inspired watercolor series. The Nordic Center received these fika posters on-loan from ASI to use as a window display during Summer 2022. Steven Lemke & Kelsie Ward: Dislocation, Morrison Gallery, Duluth Art Institute, 506 W. Michigan Street
"Installation artists Steven Lemke and Kelsie Ward build environments that question how we locate ourselves within natural and human-made landscapes. Materials sourced from the construction industry including polystyrene, cast resin, and plywood bring together Lemke and Ward’s themes of place, perspective, and our increasingly constructed reality."
